Is an Evotech radiator guard really necessary?
100% yes. An Evotech radiator guard protects the radiator of the Yamaha XSR900 GP from light and heavy damage caused by road dirt and at the same time lets the cooling air through. The Yamaha radiator consists of thin cooling fins and inner cores - the fins bend easily and block the airflow, which will eventually lead to overheating and a reduction in engine performance. The inner fins can also be punctured by foreign objects, e.g. a stone picked up by the front tyre of the motorbike or other road users and thrown directly at the radiator. The result is a rapid overheating of the engine, and if the slippery coolant splashes onto the tyres, this can lead to a sudden loss of traction.
