Is it necessary to fit a radiator guard to a "naked" motorbike?
Regardless of the type, displacement or kilometres ridden per year, all liquid-cooled motorbikes with a radiator should use an EP radiator guard, as it significantly reduces the risk of damage from road debris. The radiator of the KTM 990 Duke consists of delicate cooling fins that bend easily, and there is a core inside the radiator that can become so damaged that it is no longer possible to repair it safely. Incorrectly aligned cooling fins block the air flow, which can lead to the engine overheating. A holey coolant core leads to rapid overheating, which is highly likely to result in engine damage. Leaking coolant can also lead to loss of traction if it reaches the tyres of the motorbike.
