Is it necessary to fit a radiator guard to a "naked" motorbike?
Regardless of the type, engine capacity or kilometres ridden per year, all liquid-cooled motorbikes with a radiator should use an EP radiator guard, as it significantly reduces the risk of damage from road debris. The radiator of the KTM 1390 Super Duke R consists of delicate cooling fins that bend easily, and inside the radiator there is a core that can become so damaged that it is no longer possible to repair it safely. Incorrectly aligned cooling fins block the air flow, which can lead to the engine overheating. A holey coolant core leads to rapid overheating, which is highly likely to result in engine damage. Leaking coolant can also lead to a loss of traction if it hits the tyres of the engine.
